The recurring Wizard of Oz dream has evolved over time, with less fear of the tornado, and more fear of what goes on between people downstairs while it passes. Is it perhaps a symbol of modernity that I filmed the whirling mass on my PDA camera before making the dash the other night?
In real life this city dweller made the mistake in college of telling a group of farmers at a town store, trying to make small talk about a threatening storm, that I would like to see a real tornado some time. "Why would you want to see something as destructive as that?" one replied impatiently.
